Dr. Fauci has a good news over Covid-19

In a press conference at the white house, Dr. Fauci said that to cure COVID 19 infected patients, remdesivir is found effective. “It’s a very positive event,” he said. “The data shows that remdesivir has a clear-cut, significant positive effect in diminishing the time to recover,” he said. ” Although a 31% improvement doesn’t seem like a knock out 100%, it is a very important proven concept. Because what it has proven is that a drug can block this virus.” he added.

“Whenever you have clear-cut evidence that a drug works, you have an ethical obligation to let the people in the placebo group know,” Fauci said

Results of a clinical trial conducted over 1067 patients by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases suggest that the patients treated with remdesivir, are recovering faster than the patients treated with placebo.

The mortality rate for patients treated with remdesivir and placebo is 8%and 11% respectively. Whereas duration for illness with remdesivir treated patients is 11 days and 15 days for placebo-treated patients.  As the hopes are up now with this new experimental drug, the researchers are now trying hard to make it work with maximum efficiency as soon as possible.

Till now, hydroxychloroquine, a medicine used for the treatment of malaria, is used for the treatment. All the countries over the globe are looking forward to India for the supply of the drug.
